Angharad Williams Planning

Angharad began her career in architecture, gaining a first-class honours degree at Glamorgan University in Cardiff. With a passion for placemaking, Angharad continued her studies in urban design and planning enabling her to achieve a distinction in her Planning Masters at Cardiff University whilst working within the private sector. Angharad soon became a Chartered Town Planner with the RTPI and as her interest in creating good design and inclusive places grew, Angharad joined the Regional Management Board of the RTPI South West in 2015.

In 2020 after dedicating herself as a volunteer to the RTPI, Angharad became the editor of the RTPI Branchout magazine, before becoming Chair of the RTPI South West in 2021. In this time, Angharad hosted webinars and conferences for all other town planning professionals, using her knowledge of planning and dedication to inspire others to make inclusive, well designed places and encourage change in the system.

Angharad has worked for a number of Local Authorities in the South West, gaining her invaluable insight into how Local Authorities work. She has excellent relationships with all South West LPAs, working her way up from planning officer, to Senior Planning Officer, Team leader and until recently, the Head of Planning at Mid Devon District Council.

Within this time, Angharad worked on a variety of applications, as well as specialising in major residential and mixed-use developments. Being a dedicated individual to her work, Angharad has guided the Mid Devon planning team through various changes, introducing new procedures and policies as well as training and advising Members of Planning Committee to help encourage a smoother planning system. Angharad emphasised the importance of good communication during her time at Mid Devon to her team and Members, resulting in Angharad being nominated for Inspirational Leader of the Year at the RTPI National Awards in London. Angharad’s team were also shortlisted for the best Local Planning Authority in the RTPI South West Awards.

With such a good reputation in the South West, Angharad has been asked to speak at several conferences held by other planning consultancies as well as RTPI events.

Her passion and drive to help people as well as her love of planning has led Angharad to founding AWP whereby she can see individuals get the help and support they need to see their projects successfully through the planning system.
